J. Lawton, Booksellers and Brookline Village Books
|
J. Lawton, Booksellers was established in 1981 by former rare book librarian James Lawton who has worked with the rare book collections at the University of Michigan, Syracuse University and the Boston Public Library. They began with an open shop in Brookline, MA named Brookline Village Books. Since the owner had some experience with library computerization, they started trading on-line in 1989. By the turn of the century almost half their business was on the internet. In 2000, the shop's rent was doubled. After a fruitless seach to find other retail space, it was decided to move to a warehouse and focus on the internet side of the business.
